In a bid to boost agriculture and promote sustainable livelihoods, the Justice, Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC) Awka, in partnership with Nduson Crown Engineering Ltd, has distributed 5,000 palm seedlings to farmers in Awka South and Awka North federal constituencies.

The initiative, which forms part of JDPC’s agricultural empowerment programs, aims to strengthen palm oil production, enhance food security, and foster environmental sustainability. Local farmers, who were the primary beneficiaries, described the intervention as a lifeline that will significantly improve their yields and economic wellbeing.

Many farmers expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the rising cost and scarcity of quality seedlings have often hindered their productivity. They believe that with the seedlings provided, they can increase harvests, secure better income, and contribute to the region’s growing demand for palm oil and related products.

Speaking during the exercise, Director of JDPC Awka Rev. Fr. Levi Ukor stressed that agriculture remains central to reducing poverty and driving economic empowerment. By equipping farmers with the right resources, the organization hopes to promote self-reliance, create employment, and build resilient communities. JDPC also emphasized that sustainable farming practices are key to protecting the environment while ensuring long-term food supply.

On its part, Nduson Crown Engineering Ltd reiterated its commitment to community development and underscored the importance of private sector collaboration in driving grassroots empowerment. The company expressed optimism that the project would inspire more partnerships aimed at improving local economies.

The seedling distribution exercise aligns with JDPC Awka’s broader mission to empower vulnerable communities through agribusiness. By investing in agriculture, the organization continues to champion resilience, economic stability, and sustainable development across Anambra State.
